About TurnWarden

  • What is TurnWarden?
TurnWarden is a combat tracker built for D&D 5e DMs running online or hybrid sessions. The DM tracks initiative, HP, and conditions on one screen; the Player View (a separate URL) shows players the live round state on a tablet, TV, or second browser tab. No sync lag. No extra tabs on the DM side.
  • Who is TurnWarden for?
TurnWarden is built for D&D 5e Dungeon Masters who run encounters at the table, online via a virtual tabletop, or in a hybrid setup where some players are remote. If the DM manages initiative, hit points, and conditions for four or more combatants per session, TurnWarden keeps the round visible and the table focused.
  • Which D&D systems does TurnWarden support?
TurnWarden is built first for D&D 5.5e (the 2024 rules) and the systems beside it, including earlier 5e editions. The core tracker mechanics (initiative, HP, conditions, turn order) translate cleanly across most d20 systems. If the DM's table runs Pathfinder 2e or another ruleset, the tracker still works for the numbers; system-specific rulings stay at the table.
  • What does TurnWarden mean?
A warden holds order. TurnWarden holds the order of the round (initiative, turns, whose action is next) so the DM can give full attention to the table instead of the tally. The name is the job description.

Buying & pricing

  • How much does TurnWarden cost?
TurnWarden is available on a monthly or annual subscription. Monthly is $4.99 USD/mo. Annual is $39.99 USD/yr, billed once. The Founding Warden lifetime offer is $99 USD lifetime for the first 100 subscribers.
  • What if I want a refund?
TurnWarden includes a 60-day money-back guarantee. No questions, no forms, no pressure. If the tool does not fit the DM's table within the first 60 days, contact support at support@turnwarden.com and the refund is processed in full. The guarantee applies to both subscription plans and the Founding Wardens offer.
  • Should I pay monthly or yearly?
Monthly is $4.99 USD/mo, the right choice for a single campaign or a DM who wants to try the tool before committing. Annual ($39.99 USD/yr) works out to $3.33 per month and covers the full year in a single payment. Better value for DMs who run encounters regularly. Both plans include all features.
  • What is the Founding Warden offer?
Founding Warden is a one-time lifetime purchase at $99 USD lifetime, limited to the first 100. It includes lifetime access at the price paid at sign-up, access to a founding-only Discord channel, 2× feature-vote weight in future roadmap polls, and a forever grandfather clause: if pricing tiers ever appear, Founding Warden stays at the highest tier permanently.
  • What happens when I cancel?
Cancel any time from your account billing settings. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. The DM is not cut off on the day of cancellation. No partial refunds are issued for unused time after the 60-day money-back window.

Account & data

  • Where does my TurnWarden data live?
TurnWarden stores encounter and library data on Supabase, hosted in the US region. Each account's data is isolated: rooms, combatants, libraries, and sessions belong to the DM who created them. The DM's data is not shared with or visible to other accounts.
  • Can multiple DMs share one account?
TurnWarden is a single-DM-per-account tool. One account holds one DM's library, rooms, and encounters. Each DM keeps their own account. Technically, you could share a single TurnWarden account if you want to.
  • Can I delete my account?
Yes — open **Settings → Account → Sever your wardenship**, type your email to confirm, and the account is wiped: combats, combatants, library entries, tag presets, the lot. The action is irreversible. If you would rather have the maintainer handle it manually, support@turnwarden.com is the alternative path.
  • Can I export my data?
The TurnWarden Extension exports stat blocks as JSON from D&D Beyond. Exporting your library from inside TurnWarden (rooms, encounter history) is on the roadmap. In the meantime, contact support@turnwarden.com for a manual data export.

Using TurnWarden

  • How do players see what is happening?
Each room in TurnWarden has it's own Player View: a separate URL the DM shares with the table. Players open the URL on a tablet, TV, phone, or second browser tab. The view updates live as the DM advances turns, changes HP, or applies conditions. The DM controls all input; the Player View is read-only.
  • How do I start an encounter?
Open a room, add combatants from your library or by entering stats directly, then roll initiative. TurnWarden orders the combatants and highlights the active turn. The DM advances rounds with a single action; HP changes and condition updates happen right there, without leaving the tracker.
  • How do I track conditions like Stunned or Concentrating?
Every combatant row has a tag-picker chip with a plus icon. Open it and tap any preset to attach it. New accounts arrive with sixteen presets seeded: the fifteen 5.5e conditions (Blinded, Charmed, Frightened, Prone, Stunned, and the rest) plus a Concentrating preset for casters holding a spell. Applied tags render as pills on the combatant row and on the Player View in real time, so the table sees every status the moment the DM toggles it.
  • Can players see the DM's dice rolls?
The Dice Tray has a **Show rolls to players** switch. By default it is off, so every roll stays behind the screen and the Player View shows nothing. Flip it on and the rolls reveal on the Player View shortly after each one lands (just enough delay for the DM to read the result first). Flip it back off any time to send rolls behind the screen again — the choice is per session, not per roll.
  • Does TurnWarden work across devices?
TurnWarden runs in the browser, no install required. The DM can manage the tracker from a laptop, and the Player View URL opens on any device with a modern browser. Session state is stored server-side, so switching devices mid-session does not lose the encounter.

The Extension

  • Which sites does the TurnWarden Extension work on?
The TurnWarden Extension currently works on D&D Beyond monster pages. On a supported page, the Extension extracts the stat block as JSON. The DM then imports that JSON into the TurnWarden library. Support for additional sites is on the roadmap and will follow the same import-via-JSON pattern.
  • How do I install the TurnWarden Extension?
The TurnWarden Extension is available via the Chrome Web Store. Search for "TurnWarden" or follow the install link from the TurnWarden site. After installation, navigate to a D&D Beyond monster page and the Extension icon activates. No login is required to export JSON; a TurnWarden account is needed to import the JSON into your library.
  • Do I need a TurnWarden account to use the Extension?
No account is needed to export. The Extension extracts the stat block from the D&D Beyond page and produces a JSON file; that part is standalone. An account is required to import the JSON into your TurnWarden library and use the stat block in the tracker.

Support

  • How do I contact the maintainer?
Reach support at support@turnwarden.com. Founding Warden subscribers also have access to a founding-only Discord channel; the maintainer reads every message there and responds directly. For general questions, email is the right path.
  • Where do I report bugs?
Send bug reports to support@turnwarden.com. Include the browser, operating system, and a short description of what the DM expected versus what happened. Screenshots or screen recordings help narrow things down faster.
  • How do I request a feature or give feedback?
Feature requests go to support@turnwarden.com. Founding Warden subscribers have 2× feature-vote weight in future roadmap polls; their requests carry additional signal when the roadmap is shaped. All requests are read, regardless of plan.
